2010 sees Irish supergroup Dervish celebrate their 21st birthday. County Sligo's finest export, they have taken their music worldwide, appearing everywhere from The Great Wall of China to Brazil's Rio Festival, in front of an audience of 250,000. Onstage, the band's live shows are characterized by their carefully crafted arrangements, as they subtly explore the endless rhythms and complexities that go to make great Irish music.
An instrumental line-up bursting with talent and creativity combines masterfully with the unique vocals of the entrancing Cathy Jordan – still regarded by many as the most distinctive voice and finest frontwoman in Irish music today. Bouzouki, mandola, flute, fiddle, bodhran and accordion ensure that there is plenty of firepower to build an irresistible energy and capture the intricate flavours of the Irish tradition.
In Dervish all the elements that make great celtic music come satisfyingly together - exceptional musicianship, breathtaking vocals, high-energy sets of tunes and instantly compelling songs. These make Dervish as complete a band as are to be found anywhere in the tradition, as they continue to travel the globe, setting the standard for authentic Irish music wherever they go.
